We offer veterinary improv training for teams of all sizes and specialties. No prior experience is required. The interactive workshops are designed to connect improv techniques and exercises to specific skills needed daily in veterinary practice. The syllabus is customized to each client’s needs. Our focus is learning in a safe, inclusive setting and leaving with techniques that can be applied to work (and life).
We call these workshops Serious Play because the approach is fun, and the outcomes are practical. The shared laughter and teamwork that are hallmarks of this training will strengthen existing alliances, and build new ones within your practice. Discussion following each exercise ties improv back to the medical setting.
Beth Hagenlocker, DVM, CVA has worked in private practice and industry for over twenty years. Her communication and leadership style are grounded in improv principles. Dr. Hagenlocker facilitates each workshop and works with a team of improvisers who are also trained in applied improvisation techniques.
In 2012, she co-founded The Detroit Creativity Project, a nonprofit that provides improv training to youth and educators in Detroit public schools. Their flagship program, The Improv Project, is the focus of a three-year University of Michigan study about using improv techniques to overcome anxiety.
In 2019, she became the first veterinarian trained to teach the Medical Improv program developed for Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Hagenlocker is also a trainer in the AVMA’s Wellbeing Educator Program and a NOMV advocate.
